International exports remained below pre-pandemic levels

Scotland’s international exports valued an estimated £31.3 billion in 2021.

Following a decrease between 2019 and 2020, the value of Scotland’s international exports increased by 6.2% between 2020 and 2021 but has not returned to pre-pandemic level (2019). As a result, they valued 11.5% less in 2021 than in 2019.

The estimated value of Scotland’s total exports (including both international and to the rest of the UK) increased in 2021 but remained below the value in 2019.

In 2021, Scotland’s international exports accounted for over a third (39%) of Scotland’s total exports.

Of Scotland’s total exports, 19% were to the EU and a fifth (20%) were to non-EU countries.
