About these statistics

All results are designated as experimental statistics. These are defined as new official statistics undergoing development and testing. All users should be aware that the results may be revised and updated when further developments are made. They should therefore be used with appropriate caution at this time.

Estimates for 1998-2019 are consistent with the latest annual onshore supply and use tables for those years. Provisional estimates for 2020 and 2021 are consistent with the latest Quarterly National Accounts for onshore activity.

Estimates of extra-regio activity are consistent with the latest ONS regional gross domestic products statistics for 1998-2021, as well as the Scottish Government statistics on oil and gas production, income and expenditure, among other sources. Estimates of extra-regio GVA are not consistent with the latest published Quarterly National Accounts for Scotland, but reflect revisions which will be made in the next release on 26 July.

For the first time, the summary tables also include estimates for the population share of overseas public administration and defence activity. By doing so, the results now include all parts of the economic territory of Scotland, including a geographical share of UK extra-regio activities, as reported in the Quarterly National Accounts and Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland statistics.
