Looked After & adopted Children who have been given tenancy agreements: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

  • How many Looked After & adopted Children have been given tenancy agreements through their local councils (32 Scottish local authorities) in the last five years.
  • How many of these tenancy agreements have been successful and how many have been recorded as failed tenancies.

Response

The Scottish Government does not hold information on tenancy agreements.

The Scottish Government Homelessness statistics data collection gathers information on the outcomes of homelessness applications, including local authority, registered social landlord, and private rented tenancies.

The attached workbook provides the homelessness data we hold. This contains information on the outcomes of households that were assessed as unintentionally homeless or threatened with homelessness and with an adult member aged under 25, that had been reported as being looked after. This specifically provides information where the homelessness application outcome (where contact was maintained) resulted in a local authority, registered social landlord, or private rented tenancy. This information is provided by tenancy type and local authority for the years 2018-19 to 2022-23.

It should be noted that a homelessness case may be closed as a result of the local authority providing accommodation, or by the household arranging accommodation themselves. The homelessness data collection does not gather any information on household members who have been adopted.

Information is also not gathered on the sustainment of homelessness application outcomes.
