Research Interests

My current work is primarily concerned with the analysis of chlorophylls and other pigments of interest in marine samples using fluorometry and high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD). This is part of the work undertaken to generate long-term environmental time-series to describe the phytoplankton community and identify variability and changes around the Scottish coast and offshore standard sections. These long-term monitoring sites also act as sentinel sites for the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) and EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) in relation to eutrophication and ocean acidification.
