85% of Scotland’s agricultural land is currently classed as less favoured areas and support through the Less Favoured Area Support Scheme is important to the economy of rural and remote communities throughout Scotland.
The European Commission require that a new Areas facing Natural Constraint (ANC) land designation and scheme be in place by 2018. This will replace the current Less Favoured Area Support Scheme.
We are working with a stakeholder ANC Working Group to consider the options for the new designation and scheme. As part of the options development, a stakeholder event to consider the options for ANC will be held in June, with a full public consultation on the proposals in autumn 2016.
ANC WORKING GROUP
An ANC working group was established for the development of the 2014 - 2020 SRDP and the final report, additional documents and maps produced by this group in 2012 are available.
This working group has now been reinstated to consider the options for ANC. Please click on minutes and papers to access the working group documents.
- An update paper was provided to the CAP Stakeholder Group in March 2016 advising on the progress with the development of ANC.
ANC STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP - 16 June 2016
A workshop was held on 16 June 2016 for stakeholders to consider options for the different proposed approaches for the ANC scheme design and designation and to provide feedback to Scottish Government officials. The workshop outputs will help inform a public consultation and supporting roadshow events planned for late autumn.
Around thirty attendees from targeted key stakeholder groups were invited to participate and covered a full range of background and interests including farming, land, environment, crofting, enterprise, and local authorities. The event featured a series of presentations, breakout group work and a panel session.
