2013 Maternity Care Survey

The survey was sent to a random sample of women who gave birth in Scotland in Febraury and March 2013 for completion between April and August 2013. This was the first iteration of the Maternity Care Survey and provide high quality and comprehensive information on women's experiences of maternity care in 2013.

A total of 4,964 questionnaires were sent out and 2,366 were returned, giving a response rate of 48 per cent. More information on the survey design, response rates and methodology can be found in the National Report.

The questionnaire was developed by the Care Quality Commission and was also used to undertake a survey in England.  Minor edits were made to the questionnaire to ensure that it is appropriate in a Scottish context.

The other survey materials was developed by the Scottish Government in partnership with the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) Research Unit.
