2016 Inpatient Experience Survey

The survey was sent to a random sample of people, aged 16 and over, who had had an overnight stay in hospital in Scotland between April and September 2015. The questionnaire and survey design are substantially similar to those used for the 2014 survey.

A total of 43,901 questionnaires were sent out and 17,767 were returned, giving a response rate of 40 per cent. More information on the survey design, response rates and methodology can be found in the Technical Report.

Results

PLEASE NOTE: The results in these reports are based on the weighting methodology applied at the time. Full details of this methodology can be found in the Technical Report below. The weighting methodology used was reviewed ahead of the 2018 survey. If you are looking to compare 2016 and 2018 results, please refer to the results available on the 2018 page which have been calculated using the 2018 weighting methodology where questions are comparable.
