Consultation on Standard Labour Requirements
A Standard Labour Requirement (SLR) is a notional estimate of the labour required by a holding, based on applying a set of coefficients to the holding’s crop area and livestock headage.
The current set of coefficients, available here, are based on data from the Farm Business Survey for England and Wales, and use data from 2004/05 to 2007/08.
The attached documents have been produced to provide a more up-to-date, Scottish-based SLR. It uses results from the Scottish Farm Business Surveys of 2013/14 to 2016/17. The methodology for applying these SLRs is different from the single set of coefficients previously used, with a specific set of coefficients for each farm-type. It also allows the profile of livestock numbers, throughout the year, to be taken into account, to differentiate between different types of livestock farming. A spreadsheet is made available for ease of calculation.
We would be grateful for any views on the proposed methodology. Please contact us at email@example.com, by 30th September.
