Making rights 'real'

Our priority is to make sure that children in Scotland can exercise their rights as part of their everyday lives. This means placing children at the centre of our communities, making sure their voices are heard so that their best interests are taken into account whenever decisions are being made.

We recognise the key role that schools can play and that's why Education Scotland are working in every area across the country to strengthen the way that children’s rights feature in school life. Further information on their Recognising and Realising rights initiative will soon be publicly available.

Work is also ongoing to implement Getting it right for every child, our national approach to supporting children which builds on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

These are just some examples of the work we are taking forward which will make a practical difference for children in Scotland. In June of this year we submitted a report to the UK Government setting out a broad range of other activity also being taken forward in this area.
