The current contract for the provision of electronic monitoring services, awarded to G4S, commenced on 1 April 2013 for an initial period of 5 years. In early 2018 Scottish Ministers exercised an option to extend the contract for a period of 2 years. The contract will now expire on 31 March 2020.
In line with EU procurement rules, Scottish Minister will undertake a procurement exercise to award a new contract for EM services, which will commence on 1 April 2020. With the recent introduction of the Management of Offenders (Scotland) Bill to the Scottish Parliament the next contract may include global positioning system (GPS) technology and alcohol monitoring technology, as well as radio frequency technology, which has been in use for a number of years. The use of GPS and alcohol monitoring systems is subject to the Bill, and subsequent regulations, being approved by the Scottish Parliament.

- Invitation to Tender issued - Quarter 1 2019
- Contract Award - Late Summer 2019
- Contract start date - April 2020
