Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Act 2014

The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Act 2014 received Royal Assent on 12 March 2014.  The first ceremonies took place on 31 December 2014.

Review of the Civil Partnership Act 2004

The Government has published a consultation as part of its review of civil partnership.

The Scottish Government has published correspondence between between Marco Biagi, then Minister for Local Government and Community Empowerment, and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly.  The correspondence is about changing civil partnerships registered outwith Scotland into marriages in Scotland.

Religious and belief bodies - qualifying requirements

The Government intends to consult on qualifying requirements which religious and belief bodies must meet before solemnising marriages and registering civil partnerships.  We have produced an initial discussion paper.
