Joint Birth Registration

Joint Birth Registration

The Scottish Government believe that it is best for both parents to be fully involved in their child's upbringing, as long as that is in the interests of the child.

Jointly registering the birth can be the first step.

You can find out more in our leaflet about Joint Birth Registration. This leaflet provides information about:

  • How and where can a birth be registered?
  • What are the legal implication?
  • What are parental responsibilites and parental rights?
  • The arrangments for existing children?

You might also want to speak to someone or find out more information about family law. The links page contains links to organisations that may be able to help you.
