This year's Heads of Procurement event got off to a flying start thanks to a visit from the Cabinet Secretary of Finance and Constitution, Derek Mackay. Mr. Mackay gave the first talk of the day, encouraging procurement professionals to be creative and highlighting the benefits of partnership working before hosting an in-depth question and answer session.
Following the keynote speech chair Angus Warren, chief executive of Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC), guided attendees through a packed schedule of insightful and thought provoking sessions presented by various speakers on a number of topics including:
Strategic positioning of the procurement organisation – Bridget Lambert (Renfrewshire Council)
Ethical procurement / exploitation and human trafficking – Nicholas Duffy (Scottish Government), Stephen Connor (APUC) and Pamela Zielinksi (Ethitas)
Embedding social value into procurement activity – Andy Doors and David Wares (Scottish Prison Service)
The Heads of Procurement network brings together the most senior procurement professionals from across Scotland's public sector organisations, and the annual face-to-face meetings are a great opportunity to discuss procurement related issues, share knowledge and learn from each other. Around 100 delegates attended this year's event.
