National Institutions

National Archives of Scotland

Tens of thousands of people from all over the world use the National Archives services every year to carry out research, seek advice on record keeping, and enhance the learning and teaching of history.

National Galleries of Scotland

Includes The National Gallery, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Dean Gallery, and two partner galleries at Duff House and Paxton House.

National Library of Scotland

The largest library in Scotland with over six million books as well as extensive collections of maps, manuscripts, music, newspapers and other documents.

National Museums Scotland

National Museums Scotland is the country's national museum service. They have five museum sites which open to the public each showing different parts of the collections; National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh; National Museum of Costume, near Dumfries; National Museum of Flight, East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian; National Museum of Rural Life, East Kilbride and the National War Museum Scotland, Edinburgh Castle.
