An independent analysis of responses received to the consultation on proposals to reform the law to address domestic abuse and sexual offending.

Executive Summary

An independent analysis, produced by Craigforth, of responses to the Scottish Government’s consultation on Equally Safe – Reforming the criminal law to address domestic violence and sexual offences.

The consultation follows on from the publication of Equally Safe: Scotland’s Strategy for Preventing and Eradicating Violence Against Women and Girls in 201, which made an undertaking

to a 'whole systems' review of the approach taken to these issues within the justice system.

The consideration of the criminal law and criminal procedure raised a range of issues on which the Scottish Government sought views through this

consultation. The issues were grouped under the, following five themes: an offence of domestic abuse; non-consensual sharing of private, intimate

images; jury directions in sexual offences cases; court disposals available to protect a victim; and extra-territorial jurisdiction of Scots law on sexual offences.
