ISBN: 9781782561248

The report highlights recent achievements and next steps in delivering Scotland's digital ambition as set out in Scotland's Digital Future - A Strategy for Scotland. It does this for each of the 4 strands of the strategy (building connectivity, digital public services, digital economy and digital participation).

Executive Summary

This strategy update reports on the progress made against the actions set out in Scotland's Digital Future: A Strategy for Scotland (March 2011). As well as setting out recent achievements, it sets out actions that are required in the next 12-18 months to ensure that everyone in Scotland is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities of the digital age.

Significant progress has been made across all four work streams set out in Scotland's Digital Future. All 28 actions detailed in the strategy have either been achieved or are well on their way to being delivered.

A major focus to date has been on the provision of digital infrastructure. The Infrastructure Action Plan was launched in January 2012 setting out 4 key programmes for delivery. Two major procurements are already underway to deliver programme 1 step change 2015 infrastructure. Community Broadband Scotland has been launched and work has commenced to develop innovative demonstrator projects, taking forward key commitments under programme 3.

Progress is also being made on the other 3 strands of the Digital Strategy. Scotland's Digital Future - Delivery of Public Services strategy was published in September 2011, setting out a vision in which digital technology provides a foundation for integrated public services. The strategy commits to a 'digital first' approach where organisations deliver everything that can be delivered online.

Scotland's enterprise and skills organisations, along with local authorities, continue to provide support to businesses and individuals to raise digital participation levels and to support companies to fully exploit the economic opportunities arising from the digial age. This update sets out the detail of these activites along with key next steps.
