    Introduction

various Scotland photosBest of Scotland Week

Scotland is playing a full part in the UK Presidency. In recognition of this the seven Scottish MEPs, the Scottish Executive and Scotland Europa are proud to bring you the "Best of Scotland" - a week of events that will showcase the best of Scottish business, industry, art, science, culture, food and drink. The week will run from 24 November to 1 December, with the Taste of Scotland Gala Reception on St Andrew's Day, the day of our patron saint.

Throughout the week we will be exploring, discussing and debating a wide range of issues including better regulation, rural and urban development, the Scottish justice system and research and development.

The "Hooked on Scottish Film" series gives you the opportunity to see Scottish films for free during Best of Scotland week. These films range from Film Noir, to quirky romance, to thriller, and star actors such as Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton and Peter Mullan.

We will be showcasing at the European Parliament the work of one of Scotland's most influential artists, John Bellany CBERA, throughout the Best of Scotland week. We are also delighted to have Alexander McCall Smith, the Scottish author of bestselling 'No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency' series, to deliver the year's St Andrew's Lecture.

And what would a celebration of Scotland be without the flavour of Scottish food and drink! We will be providing the very best of food and drink sourced from Scotland at our receptions in the European Parliament.

Finally, a big thank you to all our sponsors for their kind contributions and support.
